Blondie Goes to 4-H Practice

I can't get enough of this dog!  I LOVE her coloring, which of course, explains why I kept Calvin (our Golden colored Cavachon)!

I have always loved the color of a Golden Retriever!  I saw a picture once of a Golden Australian Shepard.  After doing tons of research and talking to a couple of Australian Shepard breeders, I discovered that making golden ones was risky, because it was very close to making the ones with white faces, which can often be deaf or blind.  I don't know all the genetic details, but basically, Golden Aussies were flukes, and people didn't try to make them.  So I had to give up on my dream of getting a Golden Australian Shepard.

Of course, there is always the Golden Retriever, but we had one of those once, and she was way too needy for us, needed too much attention, and we ended up finding her a lovely home where she lived a long and happy life.

So in my hunt to find a Golden Dog, I was delighted when Cavachons came out that color, although it does not happen very often.  We've been breeding Cavachons for almost 5 years now, and we have produced 4 of them, total.  I guess this post maybe should be titled "Why I Love Golden Cavachons", so I'll get back to my original intent of this post (but I will post pictures of our Calvin soon!).

"Blondie", as we have affectionately been calling her, went with us to 4-H practice on Monday.  She was well loved by everyone, and was a very good girl, sat under the bleachers while I watched, and even took a little nap.  She smiled for the camera, and looked oh so goldeny blond in these photos of her in the evening sunshine!!  Everything was going perfectly, until...

...Rico decided that he wanted to play!

That is when Blondie decided to take cover between my legs.  She did not like Rico, AT ALL.  She barked at him, growled at him, and though he thought it was all great fun, I think she was somewhat terrified of this gigantic, black puppy dog!

She did finally decide that she would sniff him a bit, but I think she's going to need some big dog socialization before she feels comfortable around them.  Rico did want to play, play, play, so maybe that was just a bit much for Blondie.  She loved playing with Calvin, but he is not even twice her size.

Overall, we had a great time at 4-H practice!!

Isn't she pretty?!!

Her chest is white, her ears are apricot, and her body is blond.

Such a sweet and precious girl!  I know she is going to make her new family very happy!

Blondie Goes to the Vet

She was a little nervous but did very well overall. She got her Rabies shot and a full vet exam. She has her Health Certificate and is ready to fly on Wednesday!

She is a love and we (and Calvin) are going to miss her!

Going Home

The smaller of Pansy's 2 female Blenheim puppies went home yesterday.  She sat right beside me the whole way to Sp*kane, didn't get sick, and was a perfect angel the entire trip!

She looked up at me so sweetly a couple of times.

And she peacefully slept!  She did not get carsick AT ALL, which was wonderful for me!!

Her new family came all the way over from the western side of WA to get her and stayed in a hotel over night!  I love the commitment people show right at the very beginning when they decide to get a puppy!

I think they named her "Abbey", which is a perfect name for her!  I received a call this morning and everything went perfectly on the ride home yesterday, and her first night at home went smoothly also!  They are thrilled with her!  I'm happy too!

"Bear"

I love getting updates from past buyers!  It always makes me happy when they let me know how things are going, and especially when the dog has become a wonderful addition to their family.  I just received this lovely email today from Kelli.
I want to add that "Bear" comes out of my two LARGEST dogs, a 23 lb Cavalier dad, Ricky, and a 20 lb Bichon Frise mom, Vanna.  He is TINY, and I would have never expected a dog his size to come out of those parents.  It proves how impossible it is for me to predict what size the puppies will be as adults.
Enjoy her letter!

Hi Kristy!

We purchased Bear from you last July. I just wanted to take the time
to write you an e-mail thanking you for him. He is such a great
addition to our family, and we just love him to pieces (especially my
husband). He's a teeny guy - 11.4 pounds, but his personality conveys
a much larger dog. He's spunky, determined, sweet and independent. Our
boys absolutely adore him. They giggle when he runs in circles around
the couch (at the speed of light I might add).

The ladies at the vet just adore him.

He's fully crate trained at night and runs around free in the house
with us during the day (accident free now for three months). He stands
at the door and whines to let me know he needs to potty (we lost our
potty bells in our recent move, so he doesn't use those anymore). He
also stays with us out back, without a leash. He's very well behaved,
except when people pass by with their dogs... he goes berserk, so
we're working on that.

We are heading to _______ next month and he'll be joining us. We
love that we can take him wherever we go as a family.

Again, many thanks!

~Kelli and Family

Puppies All Arrived Safely

Whenever puppies go home, I feel nervous.  I don't know why.  Very, very rarely, does something go wrong.  I'm not sure anything has actually ever gone wrong, at least not something that didn't right itself within 48 hours.  But somehow I worry that the puppy won't be exactly what the families were expecting, or the puppy will suddenly get sick, or the puppy will pee and poop all over their house and it's my fault.

It's a silly thing for me to worry because the families are always thrilled, they are almost always instantly in love, puppies don't get suddenly sick, and while some do pee and poop all over the house, that part is not my fault!!

Four puppies went home this weekend, and four reports have been happy ones.

Whew!

The fun and the work are just beginning in the new homes.  I get to relax a little bit!

Ahhh!

Four less puppy poops to clean up at my house, four less puppies to hold.  I find my self taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly!

~sigh~

Now the focus is directed at the two puppies going home this next week!!

Here we go...!!!

Airport Trip and Puppies Going Home

The airport is almost the last leg of the trip.  At least, it's the last leg of my part of the trip!  Here are 2 of the 3 puppies that went home this past weekend.  "Luke", the larger Cavachon male finally found a new home in the Bay Area, and the other puppy, way back in her crate, was heading to Vacaville.  They both flew into Sacramento last Friday and both have arrived safely.

The puppy below flew to Detroit, and actually left first, at an early 7:30 in the morning.  This required me to have her to the airport by 5:30 a.m., so we stayed in a nearby hotel.  It's too much on everyone, puppies included, to get up at 3:30a.m. and drive to the airport the same morning.  We live 85 miles from the airport, and it takes a full hour and fourty-five minutes to get there, on non icy roads!

Before I headed to the airport with the first puppy, I went ahead and let Luke be with the smaller pup in the hotel bathroom.  I left them together while I took the first pup to the airport.  When I got back, Luke had crawled into that tiny little crate WITH the other puppy, and they were both in there, cozy together, happy as a couple of bosom buddies!  I had to drag him out of there, and put him back into his own crate when it was finally time for them to have their turn at the airport!

I remember the very first time I left a pupy at the airport.  I felt like a parent abandoning her child.  It was terrible, and I cried as I left.  There is something so lonely looking about the crate sitting there with nobody beside it.  I'm a lot better now.  I know that awaiting the puppy on the other end is a family, that often, has anticipated and dreamed about this day and moment for several weeks, if not several months.  I know the puppies are going to their forever homes, so airport day is a happy one, and the beginning of a whole new life for the puppy!

Annie's Blenheim and Tri Females

Just a few more shots of the blenheim and tri females.  I don't know why I didn't include the sable/white female in these photos as well, but somehow I didn't!  Enjoy!

Annie's Tri Female

We've waited over a year for this puppy!  At one point, the waiting list for a Tri female was 3 people long!  I finally advised person #3 that they should look elsewhere, because it might take years before I get enough puppies to fill my orders!!

This little girl has everything to make her a true Tri color puppy, but I will admit that her tan points are not as dark, nor as pronounced as her brother's are.  But look at that face!!

She has more color distributed over her body.  She is going to be a gorgeous puppy!!

The tan points are there, and will probably show up more as she gets older!

She also has tan cheeks.  At just 2 days old, I was amazed at how much these babies were moving around, making picture taking already a challenging job!!

Annie's Blenheim Female

This girl has some great color already!

Sweet little girlie!

Annie's Blenheim Males

These little boys are really light in color right now, but their apricot will darken up as they grow in the next few weeks.  As they become adults, it will probably lighten up again!!  I'll post more pictures as they get older, but this is what they look like at 2 days old!

The puppy on the right has the blenheim "kiss" spot!

Even this tiny, they were moving around quite a bit while I tried to take their pictures, see the blurry foot?

And remember, these are BOYS, even though they are on a pink blanket!

A Closer Look at the Sable/White Female and the Tri Male!

One of my buyers that has first choice from this litter is deciding between the sable/white female and the tri male.  Both of these puppies have exquisite markings, beautiful symmetrical faces, and nice markings on the body.

The boy has strong tan points above his eyes and on his cheeks, making him a true Tri color puppy.  We have black/white puppies much more often, but they don't have these tan points.

He also has the coveted "kiss" spot on his head, and here you can see the strong tan points above his eyes.

Annie & Skippy Have Had Their Cavachon Babies!!

I am very happy to announce the arrival of Annie & Skippy's Cavachon Puppies!!

This is a very exciting litter for me because Annie is a first time mama, and she did the whole thing alone and without any complications!  I would have helped her, but it was in the middle of the night, and in the morning, I found a bundle of 6 beautiful puppies, all clean and dry, and successfully nursing on their own!  Good Job Annie!

I was thrilled to find that the litter was a rainbow of colors, and especially that we got 2 Tri colored puppies, a color that has not been born in over a year here at SPK.  There were also 3 Blenheim puppies, and 1 sable/white puppy!

I will post pictures of Annie in another post, but I am so proud of her, and very excited that she did so well having the babies.  I believe it was last summer when I flew to CA to deliver a group of puppies to their new owners.  On that trip, I also purchased 4 new Bichon Frise puppies, 3 from my regular Bichon Frise breeder that I've bought from in the past, and 1 from a total stranger.  Annie is the puppy I bought from the stranger.

Whenever you buy a puppy that will become a mama someday, you never know what the outcome will be, if she will even get pregnant, if she will be a good mom or a bad mom that kills her babies (yes, some of them do that), if she will have milk, if she will need a c-section...and the list goes on.  It's always an unknown when you buy a puppy and raise it yourself!

This Beautiful Litter has:

1 Tri Female - SOLD
1 Tri Male - PENDING
1 Sable/White Female - SOLD
1 Blenheim Female - SOLD
1 Blenheim Male - SOLD
1 Blenheim Male - AVAILABLE

The people buying these puppies sent in their deposits long before they were born.  In fact, the gal/s getting the Tri F have been waiting over a year for a tri female puppy to be born, and one of them is going to be very happy!!

If you're interested in an SPK puppy, don't hesitate to leave your contact information here, or contact me directly at silverpawkennels@wildblue.net.  An early deposit is the best way to get your first choice for a puppy!  I look forward to hearing from you!!

Photos of Pansy's Cavachons In the Grass

Just a few more pictures of Pansy's girls playing in the grass.  Two of them have already gone home, one is going home tomorrow, and the last will go home sometime next week.  It has been a delightful litter, and the puppies have grown up nicely!!
